RIP jackson!

I woke up at four today. I don't know why I did but, I did. Jackson succumbs to a cardiac arrest, they said. Five minutes and ten sites later, I gave in to the truth. I haven't listened to MJ in the last decade but I have patronized BSB, Abba, Elvis which were much before I even came to this world , but I had forgotten MJ whose music I grew up to and with.
I put on my never used playlist of MJ songs, song after song bits and pieces of the past flashed through my eyes. Most family get-togethers would have one common factor those days and that was the music. We were careful enough to divide time between our two favourites those days-Baba sehgal (oh yes!!) and the aforementioned King of Pop. I liked Pop and particularly Jackson because my brother liked him. One of the best things about growing up with an elder brother is you know what you must like, what the brother follows you follow, what he likes you like! Things are very different now, of course.
The family would sit in a circle, as the brother and I would take the black tiled centre stage. We went in ellipses albeit in our own orbits. Jumped up and down, moved our hands, stretched our feet, collided, fell down, got up back again and also did imaginary hooplas. When, I watched one such video a few days back, I bashfully put my head down at my own stupidity. The mother called it "rendu perukum saami vandha madhiri iruku" as the video watching crowd burst into peals of laughter that are still echoing. Our theatrics were a theatrical disaster. After we would dance for 20 minutes or so, I would be taken aside and the centre stage would be the exclusive property of my brother. People would cheer and jeer as though it was Mr.MJ himself! This performance, my dear readers, was the favourite of many to date. Anna would do the moon walk like only MJ could. I tried very hard, I secretly try it when I am alone even today but No, this particular thing escapes my physical faculty. I hated him for it. The way he sashayed across the floor like an eel. The semi-spoilt kid that I was I would sit on my Mom's lap and wouldnt look at him. Jealousy!
An hour would go by and I would forget everything else and would come up with my own walk known as the "mars" walk. It basically was pretty simple and do-able. You walk normally backwards but put your hands forward and move it like the leg-motion in the moon-walk. My brother would then cheer me and I would sleep a happy kid.
I would do anything to get those days back again. I would.
Some such best memories of my life that i take everywhere with me in my mind's eye has been created amidst MJ's songs. Every good, bad and ugly happenings of mine have always been associated with music.
So here's to the King of Good Times, The King of Pop and To the eternalised King of Moon walk, We bow....

Update: An old classmate reminds me of my school performance on MJ's Heal the world. One of the best I have ever felt on stage was for it. :)

Fenny Benny lava

This video has being doing the rounds for quite sometime. Finally, Tam songs are being recogonised world over.We are going global, even without it featuring Rajnikanth.I hated it as first, even took it as a personal insult towards my people. But,like somebody said Only Sardars and Parsis can laugh at jokes meant at them.
Now,when i think of it.It is pretty funny and equally stupid.nevertheless,Ensoi.....

Here's the original lyrics of the song for people who care, like i did.

I always hated anuradha sriram, the female lead singer of the song. She has this supremely irritating nasal,pseudo-highpitched voice that gets on my nerves.
:)

Thnx to shanky for correcting the lyrics :)

FACE THE MUSIC!

Lately, i have realised that a lot of my friends don't follow english songs. Not just for its lyrics but they hate the music ,the videos and sometimes they simply don't see the point.Fair enough!
Considering a good proportion of us know nothing about our regional music and dance forms.I do not know a reason as to why we must follow phoren stuff.I am not saying all of us who do shouldn't, but if we do listen to it ,it must be for our genuine liking and not because our circle of friends or any xyz follows it.
For instance, a lot of my friends religiously follow metal, the likes of metallica, nirvana and other blahs!I find it highly suicidal and i like to listen to music that leaves my anvil and stirrup in-tact once i am done reacting to the beats or music!Well, thank you, sir!
The point i am trying to make here is ,we always have this prejudice of considering everything english and filmy stuff cool and yo!Why do we do that? Most of us listen only and solely to english or hindi (dhin-chak) music.
Why do the majority of us feel bored in a classical concert? Why don't we try and feel a raag and try to find it's meaning just like we do for an english or a run-of-the-mill hindi song.
When will WE,the present generation discover the old masters in their musical embellishment.
Indian music is the miniature of life's harmony in sound. It has sacred undertones and uniquely synthesises the senses, psychology and spirituality.More than being a sensate pleasure it comforts, soothes and touches our soul.

I will try an illustrate a certain point i had made earlier about feeling the raag.

Below,is raag bhairav. It consists of all the seven notes and is usually sung in the wee hours of the morning. After listening to it continously for a couple of months you might be able to follow it.And,listen to it deeply with love and reverence and you will realise the expungence of negativities in our mind. When the music is playing we must allow it to love us by being willing to involve ourselves into the music.

HERE

P.S:I wrote this post for a reason.Very recently when i was telling a non-musical friend to get his beats right by using the tri-tal,i was made fun of by an on-looker!I usually do not care about fun poked at me but it irritates me no end to see unsolicited advice or humour regarding my religion or music thrown at me!A lot of us don't have an idea or neither try to get an idea about the theory of relativity or metaphysics or any scientific fundaes in general. But we don't have the balls(pardon me) to comment about it in public.DO WE?But why do we rant upon something we don't understand just because no-one is going to punch you on the nose?

Having said all this,i just want to clarify how i don't hate western or dhin-chak music.i absolutely adore pink floyd and ABBA.And i sing a lot of hindi songs in public or otherwise. :)
